Despite more than four years of war, Alla and her colleagues at the laboratory in Kharkiv have never stopped working. Last year alone, they carried out more than 11,400 tuberculosis (TB) tests, identifying 447 people with TB and ensuring they were put on treatment, helping protect millions from the world’s deadliest infectious disease. In 2025, 96% of newly detected TB patients were diagnosed using rapid molecular diagnostics, while 90% of confirmed cases were tested for drug resistance – meeting World Health Organization targets for effective, targeted care from the outset.
