Congratulations to Dr. Gareth Lubbe, a final-year MBChB student in 2025, on being named First Runner-Up in the Rising Star Award category at the South African Health Excellence Awards, in recognition of his emerging contributions to healthcare, research, and academic leadership. Dr. Lubbe described the recognition as deeply meaningful and rooted in gratitude for the opportunities provided by the University, the guidance of his mentors, and the support of his family and friends. Inspired by a desire to serve others instilled by his parents, both primary school teachers, his passion for healthcare was further shaped by charity work at clinics during his Grade 10 year.
