Did you know we have an entire house within our Liverpool hospital 🏠 ? Well, not quite, but we do have an Occupational Therapy Assessment Unit - a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom that our team of Occupational Therapists (OT) use to see how patients manage a range of daily tasks to establish what support they might need when they’re discharged from our care. Cancer treatment can be really hard for many people. And whilst is treats cancer, it can leave short term and long term effects on a person’s cognitive and physical health. Our team of dedicated OTs work with our patients to check how much they’ve been affected and whether they need support with tasks such as reaching for a cup, getting into the bath or climbing into bed. Here, OT Adelle shows you around the Assessment Unit and explains some of the things they might be looking for when working with patients to ensure they’re safe and independent when they go home from hospital.
