Over 660 million people worldwide still lack access to reliable, affordable energy, with the challenge increasingly concentrated in low income, remote and off grid settings. Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) technologies, including solar, battery storage and mini grids, have the capacity to deliver power closer to where it needs to be. The critical challenge now is how we create the conditions needed to scale viable DRE solutions capable of closing the global energy access gap. Our new sustainable development vision sets out the barriers that continue to limit progress and the solutions needed to overcome them, including a clear focus on DRE for productive use, finance mobilisation, and the strengthening of markets and ecosystems needed to foster growth. Crucially, the vision positions energy access as a foundation for broader development outcomes. When combined with productive use and private sector development, DRE can improve livelihoods, strengthen markets and unlock sustainable growth - supporting climate resilience and progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Explore our new sustainable development vision page to see how the Carbon Trust is working with governments, philanthropies, investors and innovators to scale DRE in the regions that need it most ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e5rvnm3y
