🎤 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲? Last night at our Private Clubhouse in Zurich, we had the privilege of hosting Michael Watkins for a fascinating discussion on 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐚𝐝 carried by leaders. In today's environment, leadership is no longer simply about making decisions. It is about navigating uncertainty, accelerating complexity, compressed time horizons, rising stakeholder expectations, and increasingly polarized viewpoints- all while projecting confidence and clarity. Much of this burden remains unseen. Michael highlighted three forces reshaping the leadership landscape: 🔹 Connection is eroding 🔹 Time is compressing 🔹 Complexity is accelerating The most powerful insight of the evening? Leadership can no longer be about 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞. The future belongs to leaders who can help others 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫. To do this, three capabilities are becoming increasingly critical: ✅ Shared Holding - creating environments where challenges are carried collectively ✅ Shared Sense-Making - building understanding together in moments of ambiguity ✅ Shared Mapping - developing a common view of the path forward What made the evening particularly memorable was that it felt less like a lecture and more like a collective exploration. Rather than providing answers, Michael invited us to challenge assumptions, reflect deeply, and engage in meaningful dialogue about the realities of modern leadership. A powerful reminder that the strongest leaders are not those who carry the heaviest load alone, but those who create the conditions for others to help carry it.
