Part of The University of Manchester, it blends research with emotional connection, inviting visitors to explore human stories, global cultures, and the natural world. Through co-curated galleries, community celebrations, and values-led decision making, the Museum prioritises belonging and accessibility. It has also made efforts to confront its colonial past with transparency, fostering dialogue and partnership to build a more equitable, connected future locally and globally. In 2025 it was the first University Museum ever to be awarded European Museum of the Year. Presented by Ciaron Wilkinson, Head, Partnerships and Engagement, Manchester Museum, University of Manchester Ciaron is Head of Partnerships and Engagement at Manchester Museum, University of Manchester, one of the UK’s largest university museums and proud winner of European Museum of the Year 2025. His work spans communications, data, community engagement, and fundraising, all with a focus on building meaningful connections. Before joining the museum, Ciaron worked in local government, at Manchester’s tourist board, and with the city’s international arts festival, MIF. He also contributes to the UK culture sector more widely as a member of Arts Council England’s North Board.
