Video presentation of Kalamaja Museum from Tallinn, Estonia. In 2024 it won the European Museum Forum's Silletto Prize for Community Participation and Engagement. https://lnkd.in/egV5p-Zz Kalamaja Museum is located in the Kalamaja district of Tallinn, and is part of the Tallinn City Museum. From the outset, it has been a collaborative project with the local community — a uniquely participatory approach in Estonia. The museum began in spring 2018 with a survey of local residents, revealing a strong interest in sharing stories of the past, present, and future, and a desire for a welcoming space for community gatherings. This was followed by brainstorming sessions and meetings with former and current residents, which shaped the museum’s concept and permanent exhibition. Many contributed by donating objects and sharing personal memories of life in Kalamaja. Pre-recorded presentation by Kristi Paatsi, Head of branch, Kalamaja Museum, Tallinn City Museum Kristi Paatsi has been working in the museum world for over 15 years. She holds an MA in Estonian History from Tartu University. Her experience includes the Head of Educational Departments at both the Estonian History Museum and Tallinn City Museum. Her contributions to the field have been recognized with multiple awards, including the prestigious Silletto Prize for Kalamaja muuseum for Community Participation and Engagement at the European Museum Forum (EMYA) in 2024.
