#UsdanPetTips Not all dogs are natural swimmers, and even strong swimmers can panic or struggle to find their way out of the water. As pool season gets underway, a few simple precautions can help prevent a serious emergency. If your dog will be spending time around a pool this summer: š§ Never leave them unattended near the water. š« Never throw or force a dog into the water. Not all dogs enjoy swimming, and a frightening experience can increase the risk of panic and injury. 𦺠Use a properly fitted life jacket for inexperienced swimmers, senior dogs, or flat-faced breeds. š Teach your dog where the steps, ramp, or other exit points are and practice helping them find their way out. šæ Rinse chlorine off after swimming and provide plenty of fresh drinking water. Additional safety measures, such as pool fences, alarms, ramps, and canine-friendly docks, can provide an extra layer of protection.
