📢New project targets climate resilience and food security in West Africa. We’re working with UK and international partners to harness the latest advances in AI for weather prediction, with a goal of improving climate resilience and food security in West Africa. Researchers from the Turing, University of Cambridge and University of Leeds will work alongside leading universities and meteorological agencies in Ghana and Senegal, with the project aiming to: ☁️ Co-design locally relevant and accurate forecasting systems tailored to regional needs, 🌾Support farmers with improved weather insights to boost crop yields and strengthen food security, ⛆ Strengthen climate resistance in the face of increasingly unpredictable weather patterns. Cumulus will draw on the project team’s work on emerging technologies like Aardvark Weather and the Aurora Earth System Foundation Model. We’ll be working with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi in Ghana, Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar (UCAD) in Senegal, the Senegalese metrological agency ANACIM | Agence Nationale de l'Aviation Civile et de la Météorologie and the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet). ➡️ Find out more about Project Cumulus here: https://bit.ly/4sT3OVs The project is funded by Gates Foundation and UK International Development/FCDO. #Ai #AiWeatherPrediction #ClimateResilience #WeatherSystems Scott Hosking | Richard Turner | Douglas Parker
