Most nutrition advice treats protein like a single number that works for everyone. But protein, and even more specifically, amino acid, needs aren’t one-size-fits-all. Dr. Nicolaas Deutz of the Texas A&M College of Education & Human Development's research is clear: we should shift toward personalized nutrition, moving from “everyone needs the same amount” to “everyone needs an individualized amount.” For some people, the advised amount can cause problems, and for others, it may not be enough.
