Since 1876, Texas A&M has served as a force for good for Texas and the nation through education and research. Our foundation dates back to the Morrill Act of 1862, which established land-grant colleges focused on agriculture and mechanics to expand educational access nationwide. That mission shaped Texas A&M from the start and continues to drive our impact today. As the world's challenges evolved, so did our role. In 1971, Texas A&M earned its sea-grant designation for work in marine research and the maritime industry. In 1989, our commitment to space technology and exploration earned us a space-grant designation. Today, as one of only 24 institutions to hold a triple-grant status, Texas A&M continues to stand as a force for good, empowering the next generation of leaders and driving research the world needs.
