From 2028, our Hamburg plant will run on #GreenHydrogen – the first industrial company in Hamburg to do so. It comes down to grid capacity. Electrifying all of our steam production would require more power than the local grid can provide, so we’re splitting the load: about two-thirds electrified, the rest powered by green hydrogen. Two dual-fuel steam boilers run on either hydrogen or natural gas, and the connection to Hamburg’s hydrogen network is in preparation. That cuts around 6,000 tonnes of CO₂ a year.
