Hello, Over the past few years, we’ve had the opportunity to work on a range of public health and policy projects focused on improving health outcomes in Prince George’s County, MD. 📍 Prince George’s County — the largest majority-minority county in the U.S. and home to UMD — faces stark health disparities: • Bottom 50% of MD counties for overall health • Uninsurance rate more than double neighboring counties • 45% of adults in medically underserved areas • 40% rate community health as fair or poor • Child mortality in the bottom 25% statewide What our work has looked like in practice and how it’s been recognized: 📝 25+ policy white papers developed and presented 🏆 3-time Do Good Institute Semi-Finalist + Audience Choice Award Winner Some of the impact we’ve made: 🔹 Community Health Workers Initiative (CHWs) Our proposal led to the Prince George's County, Maryland Department of Health placing 18 CHWs in low-income housing properties, expanding care access to hundreds of residents. 🔹 Social Media & Health Communication Internship Research turned into action — a partnership with the Prince George's County, Maryland Department of Health that has: • Engaged UMD students in public health work. • Reached nearly 10,000 residents with accessible health content. 🔹 Menstrual Equity Pilot In collaboration with the City Of Hyattsville, Maryland Library, we distributed 700+ free menstrual products, addressing period poverty at the community level. 🔹 Health Equity Curriculum + HURON Report • Developed a curriculum to train local policymakers at the request of the Board of Health. • Delivered a 26-page policy brief to legislators to guide equitable health resource allocation — with the potential to impact 1 million residents. 💡 We often think of healthcare as hospitals and doctors. But real change happens when we address the policies shaping education, housing, food access, and opportunity. Grateful to be part of work that turns research into real-world impact — and excited for what’s ahead! #PublicHealth #HealthEquity #Policy #DoGood #CommunityImpact #UMD #PGCounty
