How do labs test for cereulide? 🔬 Labs detect cereulide using LC-MS/MS analysis, following the ISO 18465:2017 standard. At bilacon - a Tentamus company - we use an internal ¹³C-labeled standard to make sure results are accurate for many types of food. Most tests take a few working days, but we also offer express analysis if you need it sooner. What is cereulide, and why is it dangerous? 🦠 Cereulide is a toxin made by some strains of Bacillus cereus, a type of bacteria often found in raw materials, dust, and food production areas. This toxin is a serious food safety risk because it can survive both cooking and reheating. Even if the bacteria are no longer present, the toxin remains in the food. It can cause vomiting as soon as 30 minutes after eating. Infants and young children are especially at risk, since even small amounts can cause symptoms. 👶 This is why it’s important to regularly test products such as baby food. 🍼 We are here to help!
