Excel was developed in 1985. Is it time we stopped using it for sourcing carriers? Yes, Excel works for carrier sourcing: You start with column 1, pick up the phone, and repeat until you find someone available and affordable. But that process has a few clear drawbacks. For one, it restricts teams to working with a tiny fraction of the market... Which means the carrier chosen is rarely the best-located, best-equipped or most cost-effective option. There's also the time wasted by teams calling non-starters. Worse, poor vehicle positioning causes empty miles – which means rates that are higher than they would otherwise be. Bespoke digital carrier sourcing tools work differently. For more, take a look at James Thornton's latest article (link in comments). #transport #logistics #supplychain #innovation
