At the Forefront of Global Microscopy: Technion Awarded Prestigious Research Grant The Technion has secured a highly competitive Planning and Budgeting Committee (PBC) grant to acquire two state-of-the-art electron microscopy systems: CRYO-TEM and CRYO-FIB-SEM. This initiative will significantly enhance the Technion Center for Electron Microscopy of Soft Materials, in collaboration with the Technion Initiative for Human Health. These advanced cryogenic systems enable imaging at molecular resolution while preserving natural conditions. As Prof. Tamar Segal-Peretz (Wolfson Faculty of Chemical Engineering Technion) explains: “We will be able to observe phenomena at the molecular level while preserving the molecules’ natural environment, and examine, for example, how a drug binds to its target protein to carry out its therapeutic activity.” The project brings together researchers from seven faculties, including Dr. Leeya Engel (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Technion), Dr. Dvir Harris (The Schulich Faculty Of Chemistry in the Technion), Prof. Ido Kaminer (Technion-The Faculty of ECE (The Andrew & Erna Viterbi Faculty of Electrical & Computer Engineering) Prof. Tom Schultheiss (Rappaport Faculty of Medicine Technion), Dr. Lucy Liberman Solomon, and Prof. Segal-Peretz. This initiative will expand infrastructure, enable interdisciplinary collaborations, and advance breakthroughs in structural biology, medicine, and materials science—further reinforcing the Technion’s global leadership. #ScientificBreakthrough #Microscopy #CryoEM #StructuralBiology #ResearchInnovation #LifeSciences #MaterialsScience #GlobalResearch #IsraelInnovation In the photo: from left, standing - Prof. Tamar Segal-Peretz, Dr. Dvir Harris, Dr. Lucy Lieberman; sitting: Prof. Ido Kaminer, Prof. Thomas Schultheiss, Dr. Leeya Engel.
