How Do We Cultivate Human Intelligence in an AI-Rich Environment? Technovation 2026, the annual high-tech conference of TheMarker and the Technion, was held yesterday on campus for the fifth consecutive year. The conference focused on the current state and future of Israel's high-tech sector, as well as the intersections between academia, industry, innovation, economics, society, and venture capital. Speakers included representatives from the Technion alongside experts from across the economy, among them Gili Raanan, Aya Soffer, Brig. Gen. (Res.) Yael Grossman, Yodfat Harel Buchris, Ali Ayoub, Yael Mazuz Harpaz, Noam Zilberstein, Yevgeny Dibrov, and others. In a recorded interview with TheMarker founder Guy Rolnik, 2025 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences Prof. Joel Mokyr said: "If it took the printing press decades to achieve widespread adoption across Europe, and the steam engine a century to become integrated into industry, then artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming humanity in a remarkably short period of time. I am optimistic about the technological future of both the world and humanity. Our ability to use technology to improve everyday life and material well-being is virtually limitless." In the conference's opening interview, Technion President Prof. Uri Sivan addressed the challenges facing academia in the age of AI, saying: "This is truly a singular moment in time, because we have never seen a technology develop at such a pace. But we have not forgotten what our core mission is - human intelligence. The big question is how we cultivate human intelligence in an environment rich in artificial intelligence."
