🧡🦾Every year, Roskilde Festival serves as a living laboratory for DTU students. Here, the students develop and test technological solutions to specific challenges arising at a festival with a population equivalent to that of Denmark’s fourth-largest city, Aalborg. This year’s 15 projects range from AI-based waste sorting and mobile energy solutions to new ways to reduce queues and make the festival more accessible, safe, and sustainable for visitors. The ideas are plenty, and creativity is high. What all the projects have in common is that they are based on real needs at the festival. 🏮Among the projects is Northstar, a lamp-and-app solution designed to make it easier for the visually impaired to find their tent in the dark. The lamp is mounted inside the tent and can be activated wirelessly from your phone, causing it to emit a pulsating light. "We came up with the idea for Northstar while talking to several visually impaired festivalgoers ahead of the festival, who told us that they often struggle to find their tents after dark. We hope that our solution can give those with visual impairments a better and safer festival experience," explains William Martin Kronborg, one of the students behind the project. His project partner, Lucas Campopiano, adds: "Over the next few days, we’ll be testing Northstar with real users—all the festival-goers—so we can gather as much feedback as possible on our solution."
