CARBON CAPTURE, EXPLAINED 🌫️➡️🧪 Post-combustion CO₂ capture is about stopping emissions at the source - before they reach the atmosphere. Professor Philip Loldrup Fosbøl shows what this looks like in practice: 1️⃣ Flue gas is “washed” through a capture liquid (a solvent) that binds CO₂. 2️⃣ The cleaned gas is released, while the CO₂ remains in the liquid. 3️⃣ From there, the CO₂ can be driven out in a concentrated form and either stored underground or used in other applications, and the liquid can be reused in a loop. It all comes down to the solvent! It needs to capture CO₂ effectively while also releasing it again using as little energy as possible. Releasing CO₂ takes energy, and that’s what drives the cost. That is why DTU researchers are developing and testing new solvent molecules. With billions of possible solvent mixtures, the team uses AI to narrow the search, test the best candidates in the lab, and scale them up in pilot facilities. #DTUdk #CarbonCapture #CO2 #GreenTransition
