This post is likely going to violate a few LinkedIn conventions and best practices by combining messages – but I gave up on trying to win the engagement algorithm rat race months ago, and there's tons to do. So here goes: First, some housekeeping and an FYI for my connections: I’ve moved the digital home for my consulting practice to tbgadvisory.net and I’m sharing this because if you've clicked any of my blog post links here in LinkedIn recently and landed on a broken page, that's why. Getting everything redirected while preserving new traffic to the old domain is an absolute pain in the ass, but I’ll get there! 😁 I’m not dead, I didn’t forget to pay a bill - LinkedIn reorganization is a project in and of itself. So, the REASON for the move is something I’m very excited to share: Once I decided to stop funding making other people rich with checks drawn against my health and family, I found that my wife and I make a fantastic team in new ways. Together, we’ve been working on something that needs its own space. Turns out the perfect space was thinkbuildgrow.net. Yesterday, I officially registered Think. Build. Grow. for trademark in it's class and Helen and I are actively developing. It’s a secular homeschool curriculum, but probably not the kind you're picturing. This isn’t about workbooks, or slide shows that fuel a group of kids speed clicking “NEXT” with glazed-over eyes; it’s a complete curriculum that pairs online coursework with real-world, hands-on activities. The child is additionally guided by a learning engine that helps identify where more practice is needed, and where development warrants acceleration and adjusts the curriculum from there; adapting the curriculum to the student, rather than the student to the curriculum. The part that genuinely excites me is the cross-subject design we insist on implementing into the platform. As an example: a week covering genetics might have a student extracting their own DNA in the kitchen through a safe, simple, fun lab experiment (Science), reading about Rosalind Franklin (Language Arts), and debating who should own genetic data (Social Studies) - all in the same week, all connected. This one is personal to us, and our own children are going to be engaging with this content (and excited to be child actors since they’ll be demoing the labs on embedded video). We think kids deserve curriculum that treats them as genuinely capable of being curious. As we work to continue funding development of this project and build relationships with folks that see a similar need, I’d love to chat with anyone in the homeschool community, or in the curriculum and edtech space. Additionally, there is a “Get Notified" form on the site for anyone who wants to follow the progress through updates. #ThinkBuildGrow #homeschool #edtech #curriculum
