GM: Strategy & Insights @ eMedia Investments
Reflecting on 15 years at eMedia, and almost 20 in the industry, and the grey hairs that have made an appearance since I started this career path, I can’t help but think back on the experiences I’ve had over this time and how they have shaped me. More than the incredible work I’ve had the opportunity to do, or countries I’ve been fortunate to travel to, the most important component of these years were (and still are) the people. From the people I worked with in Cape Town in my early years, to the special ones that have passed on, those that almost destroyed me, those that have raised me, and those that believed in me and supported me through it all. And some of the most important of all these people, are those that I had the privilege to lead, who taught me so much about myself. Who saw me at my worst and my best. Who challenged me, and cheered me on. Leading people will possibly be one of the hardest things you will ever do. As Simon Sinek says, “Leadership is not about being in charge. It’s about taking care of those in your charge.” Ultimately, it’s about taking on the responsibility, not just for results, but for creating an environment for people to learn, grow, thrive, be challenged, and one day spread their wings and move on. To the special ones, who let me lead them, you will always be a part of my story, thank you for everything.
