In a recent leadership meeting, we drilled into the root cause of various trends in our building. To do this, we used the “Five Whys” method, where we repeatedly asked “why?” until we got to the heart of the issue. This practice forced us to seek for understanding rather than sprint towards a solution. Since then, I have found myself using this protocol when responding to student discipline as well, and thus determining next steps that are less reactive and more preventative. #GSUEdLead
