Over the past six months, when people have asked what I'm working on, I've quipped, "A story about kidnapped Ukrainian priests and the torture they endured." And that's true. It is a story about the horror and despair that they, and many of their friends and neighbors, have experienced. But that isn't the takeaway. Somehow, each person I interviewed expressed an abundant and radiant hope. Part of that hope comes from Notre Dame Law School's Global Human Rights Clinic and those who worked tirelessly to free the priests, and who continue to work in the service of others. But part of it is rooted in a "bond in God," that is full of love, trust and gratitude, even in darkness. It is a profound kind of hope that perhaps will give us all something to seek in the many shadows of our own lives. https://lnkd.in/eeu5wRPt There's no better place to write than Notre Dame Magazine.
