I call myself a data engineer, historian, and linguist for a reason—because I don’t see these as contradictions. In fact, they complement each other. Would you believe that the first written text we have is essentially a spreadsheet? A Mesopotamian ledger from 3400 B.C. recorded grain inventories and worker wages—an ancient database, with immutability and record-keeping principles that still matter today. Some engineers are the kids who took everything apart to see how it worked. I was the kid fascinated by how things evolved—languages, ideas, systems. Different approach, same destination: curiosity-driven understanding. I wrote more about how history and linguistics shaped my perspective on tech—check it out here 👇
