Fantastic news this June. The British Film Institute (BFI) has pledged £14.6m in National Lottery good cause funding to secure the next three years of education and early skills provision for young people across the UK. A massive congratulations to Lucy Kennedy and the team at the National Saturday Club, who are securing a brilliant portion of this investment to scale their Film&Screen Saturday Clubs and Masterclasses. This type of structured, inclusive pipeline is exactly what protects the long-term health of our industry. When we talk about production economics and sustainability, the math is simple: the future workforce requires a rock-solid, diverse talent foundation. By building creative confidence and offering structured pathways to 13- 16-year-olds early on, we prevent the regional imbalances and skill shortages that turn into operational bottlenecks on set years later. As Lucy perfectly highlighted, this investment ensures that young people from all backgrounds and communities can engage critically and creatively with film and screen culture-equipping the next generation to thrive within a rapidly evolving sector. Brilliant work by Sara Whybrew and the wider British Film Institute (BFI) team for maintaining this strategic momentum.
