“You’re a member of your own care team.” That’s what Daad, who is living with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), shared with #TeamTakeda at our Oncology Town Hall. Daad joined Michael Sapienza, CEO of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance and Rushi Potdar, Chief Medical Officer, Global Oncology at Takeda, for a meaningful conversation about what it takes to help patients move from “along for the ride” to active participants in their care. Daad and Michael highlighted how difficult it can be for patients to know what questions to ask—and to find clear, easy-to-understand resources. When that information gap exists, self-advocacy becomes much harder. Patient advocacy organizations play a critical role in closing these gaps, not only through education, but also by helping patients navigate the healthcare system, shaping policy and elevating the patient perspective so it remains front and center for providers, industry and policymakers.
