What does it take to turn classroom theory into real-world understanding? For Maxwell students in the public safety internship, the answer may be reading case files a judge handed you over the weekend or seeing a prison cell up-close, and walking away with a career path you never expected. Over the past five years, 25 students have interned with partners including the Syracuse City Police Department, the Onondaga County Sheriff's Office, the district attorney's office and the NY State Unified Court System—gaining the kind of access no textbook can replicate. “I’m now going to law school because of this internship experience,” said Isabella Zuluaga ‘25. The program is expanding this fall thanks to continued donor support.
