✈️ Heidi Grantner and Robert Hewitt had an insightful few days in Kelowna at the British Columbia Aviation Council (BCAC) 2026 Conference: Soaring Above Challenges – Eyes on the Horizon. Heidi spoke on the panel “Tackling the Climate Sustainability Challenge – Decarbonizing Airports,” sharing Synergy’s perspective on advancing decarbonization at airports of any size. Both returned with fresh insights into the innovation and momentum shaping this rapidly evolving industry. 🌟 Top Takeaways from the Conference: 🌿 Sustainability & Decarbonization: There was a strong focus on funding pathways toward low‑carbon operations and how to accelerate decarbonization in aviation. ⚡️ Innovation in Energy Systems: Many discussed models for electrification, including consortium‑led charging logistics and the vision of airports as future renewable energy hubs. 🛩️ Advanced Air Mobility: Creating an “electrical aviation corridor” for the Lower Mainland and the Island, similar to the Green Shipping Corridor. This could be an ideal location given short distances, relatively good weather, and supply of clean power. These pillars have been reinforced by the Government's recent mandate to increase Canada’s defense spending from 2-5% of GDP. This will represent millions of new dollars for dual-purpose (military/civilian) technologies, and aviation will be a big part of that. 👏 A big thank‑you to the BC Aviation Council and everyone involved in hosting such a forward‑looking conference. We’re excited to continue supporting the sector’s journey toward deeper decarbonization and long‑term resilience. #BCAC26 #AviationDecarbonization #ClimateAction
