For elderly heart patients, an AI-enabled home monitoring platform can make their recovery easier and more accessible – with a voice-enabled AI companion providing daily check-ins to personalised medication and care reminders.   That is what the "AssureCare Suite" aspires to do. It was declared the winner out of eight finalists at our recent NUS-Synapxe-IMDA AI Innovation Challenge 2026, with the finals held at the Synapxe Terrarium innovation lab.   This year’s Challenge brought together 880 students, from 18 universities, polytechnics and junior colleges, to tackle chronic health issues like diabetes and high blood pressure, which affect over 1.8 million people in Singapore. For the first time, we had Junior College students joining the Challenge, broadening the impact in nurturing the next generation of problem solvers. To ensure that the solutions were practical and relevant to Singapore’s context, participants were encouraged to use the MERaLiON and SEA-LION Large Language Models (LLMs), which are designed to reflect the region’s diverse cultures, languages, and values.   Alan Goh, our Assistant Chief Executive, said of the Challenge: “Partnerships like these reflect how cross-sector collaboration can bridge real-world healthcare needs with emerging AI talent, giving students a safe platform to turn their innovative ideas to action.” Congratulations to the finalists for innovating and designing impactful solutions for our community!
