In the Nordics, requests for grid capacity now exceed availability. Grid congestion has become such an issue that the four Nordic TSOs spoke with one voice: close cooperation is needed, and flexibility is crucial to connecting more demand. We couldn’t agree more, which is why the new, stricter connection rules are puzzling. The mechanisms meant to manage congestion increasingly restrict the very flexibility the TSOs say they need. Our Head of Public and Regulatory Affairs Mathilde Chareyron dives into this paradox in this month’s Energy Monthly. In this edition: 👉 Our recommendations for new market rules, and what a dynamic, value-based allocation would change; 👉 The case for flexibility first, curtailment last, and how to utilise the flexibility already available; 👉 As always, articles that caught our eyes from, plus two additional deep dives.
