🏙️ Urban growth is outpacing flood resilience. As cities expand, sealed surfaces increase runoff and amplify flood intensity, increasing the likelihood that intense rainfall turns into damaging floods. In China, built‑up areas in flood zones have grown ~480% since 1975, far outpacing the 76% rise in exposed population. This shift is changing how flood risk builds and how losses develop over time. Insured flood losses in Asia are growing at around 12% annually, driven by urbanisation, land‑use change and rising asset concentration that put more value in harm’s way. This highlights the need to integrate resilience earlier in urban planning and infrastructure decisions. https://ow.ly/8q3150ZaYF2
