Research facilities place exceptionally high demands on indoor climate solutions. Sensitive laboratory work requires stable and controlled conditions, while offices, meeting spaces and public areas need to support comfort, concentration and collaboration. The CECAD Research Centre in Cologne, Germany, brings all of these together in a single, seven-storey building that features laboratories, offices, auditorium and public spaces. As an additional challenge, the project aimed to integrate all technical installations into the architecture of the building and interiors, aligning with the design rather than directing it. This reference case clearly shows how ventilation, acoustics and architectural considerations can be combined to create an indoor climate and environment that supports both scientific research and everyday use of the building.
