Protecting what inspires us – for generations As nature lovers, we feel a deep connection to the wild. It gives us perspective, calm, and purpose. Protecting nature is a shared responsibility. For us as a company, it has always been a fundamental commitment. Since our founding in 1949, SWAROVSKI OPTIK has taken sustainability seriously. Long before it became a global priority, we invested in forward thinking technologies, including solar power as early as the 1970s. Did you know? In 1977, SWAROVSKI OPTIK was at the forefront of solar innovation. Together with Swarovski’s crystal experts in Wattens, we developed and patented intricately coated glass mirrors for solar panel prototypes. Shortly thereafter, we installed a solar power measuring station as part of a nationwide research project, attracting attention from both media and politics. Even Federal Minister Dr. Hertha Firnberg visited to learn more. By the early 1980s, our expertise was contributing to further solar technology projects: including a humanitarian initiative in Kenya, where we helped address firewood shortages by inventing and installing a solar powered cooker. And today? We continue to reduce our environmental footprint and invest in sustainable solutions. The 2,000+ photovoltaic panels at our headquarters are just one example of how we are turning long-term responsibility into action.
