#DigitalTwins š¶š» šš®š»š±š®š š³š¹š¶š½š ššµš² š“š®šŗš² š©šŖš You know that path everyone skips and cuts across the grass instead? That's a great representation of what happens when infrastructure is planned without precise predictions. Some cities make network-wide investment decisions with almost no data, relying on assumptions or outdated information. Others have data, but can't simulate what happens when they change something. Will the bypass actually help? Will the new signal timing push congestion somewhere even worse? š¤ In many cases, nobody knows until the investment has already been made. šÆ The city of Landau in der Pfalz, in Germany, is running a Digital Twin across 40 intersections & 2,000 road segments to make sure they know what's coming next. Every 5 minutes, the model recalculates. Not just to optimize current traffic conditions. It also predicts ahead. They are ACTUALLY working on the future of mobility! Matti Korvenmaa presented this at the ITS European Congress in Istanbul, a full session, and more about Landau is linked in the comments.
