π π₯ New SUSTAINCELL publication π Scalable production of high-performance platinum catalysts is key to accelerating the commercialization of fuel cells and electrolyzers. The latest publication led in #Carbon_Energy presents Pt nanoparticles embedded within a porous nanoscale carbon network, produced in a single process step using controlled-atmosphere Flame Spray Pyrolysis (FSP) technology. The study demonstrates excellent electrochemical performance, high durability, and unique catalyst evolution during the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cells. The electrocatalysts features: High volume of large mesoporous -> ease media transport and Pt accessibility Network of carbon nanoparticles -> improved proton transport Embedded Pt nanoparticles -> low dissolution and high durability The study was led by DLR Institute of Engineering Thermodynamics at German Aerospace Center (DLR) in collaboration with EPFL and CEA Read the full paper: https://lnkd.in/ewRxt3cT Involved researchers: Suriya Venkatesan, Jens Mitzel, Tobias Morawietz, Emmanuelle Boehm Courjault; Deven Estes; Laure GuΓ©taz, Indro Biswas, Jan Van Herle, Karsten Wegner, Pawel Gazdzicki, Kaspar Andreas Friedrich #Hydrogen #FuelCells #Electrocatalysis #PlatinumCatalysts #FlameSprayPyrolysis #CleanEnergy #SUSTAINCELL #Research #Innovation
