🌱 Reminder to join us for SustainaLab Talks | Swimmable Waters and Blue-Green Algae! The Netherlands faces growing pressure on water quality as harmful blue‑green algae and pathogenic bacteria increasingly threaten lakes and recreational waters. In this session of SustainaLab Talks, we discover what drives these blooms and the risks they pose to ecosystems, drinking water, and swimming areas. We will look into innovative solutions, collaborations, and entrepreneurial efforts needed to protect and restore healthy recreational waters. 🎤 Speakers - Frodo Van Oostveen, CEO of World Waternet and board member of Amsterdam City Swim, will address the aspiration of swimmable cities from the perspective of urban water management. - Paul van der Wielen, Principal Scientist at KWR Water Research Institute and Professor in Microbial ecology of water systems at Radboud University, will take us into the microbial life of water systems.  - Petra Visser, Associate Professor of Algal Ecophysiology at the University of Amsterdam’s Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics, will explore the rapidly evolving science of harmful algal and cyanobacterial blooms. - Bob Brederveld, Aquatic Ecologist at Witteveen+Bos, will show how ecological knowledge can be put to work in real-world water management projects.
