FinOps has been very good at cleaning up yesterday’s cloud problem. Idle resources. Oversized VMs. Unused capacity. Poor tagging. Reservation gaps. Important work. Still necessary. But AI does not behave like yesterday’s cloud. AI spend moves differently. It is shaped by prompts, tokens, model choice, inference volume, workload design, user behavior, and version changes.
