Physics died because of the famous scammer named Albert Einstein. But Economics died because of the lesser-known scammer named Paul Samuelson, who corrupted Adam Smith's invisible hand to justify selfishness. This is totally opposite of Adam Smith's explanation that the invisible hand is a spiritual concept—as coming from God, as the Hand of God. This mirrors the concept of Dharma in Hinduism or the Tao in Taoism, where everyone has his or her own Dharma or purpose in existence. Following your own path doesn't mean you are selfish—it just means you are true to yourself. If a child wants to be a doctor instead of an engineer, then common moral sense would instruct his parents to support his medical education instead of forcing him to take up engineering. He would naturally excel at medicine, causing him to be more productive and successful than had he chosen a career that he hated.
