Few people can say they helped shape the conversations that led to National Indigenous Peoples Day. Vincent Kewaquado, Superior’s Indigenous and Community Relations Partner, had the opportunity to take part in early discussions around what would become National Aboriginal Peoples Day, now known as National Indigenous Peoples Day. In the mid-1990s, while leading a National Aboriginal Youth Council, Vincent met with MP Elijah Harper on Parliament Hill to share an urban Indigenous youth perspective on establishing a national day to celebrate Indigenous Peoples across Canada. “I feel privileged to have been part of the early conversations that helped shape what National Indigenous Peoples Day has become.” For Vincent, National Indigenous Peoples Day is more than a day of recognition. It is rooted in community, advocacy and the importance of ensuring Indigenous Peoples, histories and contributions are seen, celebrated and understood. #NIHM2026 #NIPD2026 #EmployeeSpotlight #SuperiorPropane
