Five weeks of brain training; decades of preventive brain health. New research from the long-running ACTIVE trial suggests that targeted speed-of-processing brain training (in the form of a video game) may be associated with a significant reduction in #dementia risk decades later. Older adults who completed brief, adaptive visual processing exercises, especially when followed by booster sessions, were about 25% less likely to develop #Alzheimer’s or other dementias over 20 years compared with those who received no training. This is one of the first randomized trials to show long-term protective effects from a non-pharmacological cognitive intervention, highlighting the potential value of structured, engaging brain stimulation as part of a broader brain health strategy. At Sunday Health, we believe this reinforces a core principle: early, proactive approaches to cognitive health matter. While cognitive training is just one piece of the modifiable risk factors' puzzle, this evidence adds to the case for integrated preventive care models that combine lifestyle, cognitive engagement, and personalized clinical support. https://lnkd.in/e6VdSCQk
