Can cognitive training actually reduce dementia risk? A newly published study in "Alzheimer’s & Dementia: Translational Research & Clinical Interventions" followed older adults for 20 years and found something striking: Participants who completed a specific speed-of-processing cognitive training program had a 25% lower risk of developing dementia compared with control groups. The training itself was relatively modest — about 22.5 hours over time, including booster sessions. Two things stand out from the research: 1. Not all brain training is equal. The protective effect was seen only with speed-of-processing training, not traditional memory or reasoning exercises. 2. The results reinforce a growing scientific consensus: brain health is modifiable. At Sunday Health, we believe the future of #cognitivecare will look much more like preventive medicine, combining early detection, personalized risk reduction, cognitive engagement, and lifestyle interventions to help people protect their brain health for longer. The science is evolving quickly. But the direction is becoming clearer: Cognitive decline is not inevitable — and proactive brain care may matter more than we once thought. https://lnkd.in/edGjU3fn #alzheimersdisease #dementia #alzheimers #cognitieimpairment
