A Bright Spot: The Power of Community Entrepreneurship In uncertain times, moments of hope matter. At Sunday Friends, we see everyday that families already carry the creativity, knowledge, and entrepreneurial spirit they need. They just need a chance to bring it to life. Our work is at the intersection of opportunity and hope. At our Valley Palms neighborhood program, we created opportunity through Mercado—a lively community marketplace where neighbors became vendors, home cooks became entrepreneurs, and ideas stepped into the real world. Families asked an honest question: How do we know if our ideas will work? So we made a space to help them find out. Participants received $100 to purchase supplies, test their products, and offer samples to the community. One parent stood behind a table of homemade goods, watching as neighbors stopped, tasted, and bought. Later, they shared, “This opportunity gave me the encouragement I needed to move forward with my business.” That’s what Mercado is all about. It’s not just selling—it’s trying, learning, and growing. Participants are invited to take the next step by applying to our Dream, Build, Mentor (DBM) entrepreneurship program—a pathway toward economic stability and independence.
