During National Reconciliation Week, many of us reflect on what reconciliation means in practice.  For Suncorp’s Michelle Barr CCMP™, it meant turning intention into action – taking on the Larapinta Trail to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. “For me, reconciliation means coming together and being respectful of other people’s opinions and experiences,” Michelle shared.  “It begins with a willingness, an open mind and being prepared to listen.” Walking 40km on Arrernte Country, Michelle joined a group of like-minded people and helped raise more than $30,000 to support access to culturally relevant books for children in remote First Nations communities. Her motivation was grounded in a simple but powerful idea: that access to stories – especially culturally relevant ones – matters. From a personal reading challenge to trekking across some of Australia’s most breathtaking landscapes, Michelle’s journey is a reminder that meaningful progress often starts with small steps. “It’s just lots of little, tiny steps that started to come together into something more meaningful… you can make progress as long as you are moving forward,” Michelle said. At Suncorp, we’re committed to walking this path together.  Through our Reconciliation Action Plan, we’re working to embed reconciliation across our organisation – creating respectful environments, strengthening partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and supporting opportunities for people to thrive. “We are better when we can work and walk together,” Michelle said.
