Why Previo en Origen (PEO) Matters More Than Ever for Imports into Mexico Previo en Origen / Pre Export Inspection (PEO) is a container load verification service performed in the country of origin, specifically designed to support shipments bound for Mexico. Mexican customs regulations change frequently, and enforcement has intensified. As a result, PEO is widely used as an upstream compliance support tool for exporters and customs brokers handling Mexico bound shipments. By verifying cargo and documentation prior to shipment, PEO helps identify potential discrepancies at an early stage, align shipment data with current Mexican customs requirements, and may help expedite shipment clearance by reducing the likelihood of delays, holds, or corrective actions upon arrival. In a regulatory environment characterized by enhanced documentation controls and inspections, a properly conducted PEO can contribute to a smoother and more efficient import clearance process. IMPORTANT NOTE Since January 2026, Mexico’s Customs Law reform has been fully in force, introducing stricter compliance obligations, expanded inspections, and shared liability for importers and customs brokers. In cases of non compliance, penalties may include fines of up to 300% of the goods’ customs value, precautionary seizure, and possible suspension of authorizations. #PrevioEnOrigen #PEO #MexicoImports #MexicoCustoms #CustomsCompliance #PreExportInspection #SupplyChainRisk #MexicoTrade #GlobalLogistics
