🍃 Black Tea Inspection: Controlling Shipment Risk Before Export Black tea is a natural, variable product influenced by season, origin, storage, and handling conditions. Even when documents appear compliant, the actual condition of the shipment may differ. Independent third-party inspection helps verify whether the lot presented at the time of inspection is consistent with the buyer’s requirements, shipment documents, batch identification, and traceability information, based on sampling and the agreed scope. Inspection typically covers: ✅ Storage condition Clean, suitable storage, protected from moisture, contamination risks, and foreign odors ✅ Random bag selection and opening Selected bags can be opened to verify the real condition of the tea inside, not only the external packing ✅ Dry leaf appearance Color, texture, size, uniformity, and grade consistency ✅ Visible findings Stems, dust particles, oversized leaves, or visible foreign matter recorded for buyer review ✅ Moisture check When included in scope, assessed with portable equipment under warehouse conditions (Evaluation considered as Indicative only and not as laboratory result) ✅ Packing and traceability Bag integrity, sealing, marking, batch identification, and consistency with shipment documents ✅ Quantity and weight verification Physical quantity and weight checked against declared quantities ✅ Documentation review Available test reports, batch information, and shipment documents reviewed when provided ⚠️ Important point Inspection does not replace laboratory testing. Laboratory testing does not replace shipment inspection. Both are complementary. ⚠️ Inspection limitations Third-party inspection follows the client’s instructions and agreed scope, and remains subject to site access conditions. Suppliers may restrict sampling, limit bag opening, or refuse inspection, which can affect representativity. If the factory performs sampling for laboratory testing, the sample may not fully represent the shipment. Sampling is therefore critical. Ref: ISO 1839:1980 – Tea Sampling A well-controlled tea shipment may combine: • Inspection of goods, packing, and marking • Visual assessment of dry tea leaves • Quantity and weight verification • Representative sampling when laboratory testing is required • Documentation and batch traceability review • Container Loading Supervision when required by the buyer At Sunchine Inspection, we define the right control scope for each tea shipment, based on the buyer’s quality requirements, shipment risks, and destination market.
