Poland generates nearly 13 million tonnes of municipal waste each year. What if that waste became a solution to its energy challenge? In a country where fossil fuels still dominate the energy mix, transitioning to cleaner, more resilient sources is both urgent and complex. However, the answer may lie in the waste that is discarded every day. We are pleased to announce the signing of a Letter of Intent with Grupa TAURON - one of Poland's leading energy groups, actively transforming its generation portfolio toward lower-carbon sources - to explore the development of Energy-from-Waste (EfW) and alternative fuel solutions in Poland. Together, we will assess how waste can be integrated into a diversified, lower-carbon energy mix, addressing the country's decarbonisation ambitions and waste management challenges with a single, circular approach. With 43 EfW facilities worldwide, treating 4.8 million tonnes of waste and generating 3.3 TWh of heat and 2.8 TWh of electricity annually, SUEZ has proven expertise in designing and operating this type of infrastructure on a large scale — transforming local challenges into sustainable energy resources. This collaboration reflects our long-standing commitment to Poland's environmental and energy transformation and represents a concrete step towards realising the potential of the circular economy for the energy transition.
