🚀 As the world races towards Agentic AI, I realized that the principles behind building good agents are surprisingly similar to something many of us have been practicing for years: Parenting. The more I thought about it, the more the parallels became impossible to ignore. Here's a simple analogy that resonated with me. 👨‍👦 From Parenting to Agenting Peter had spent years mastering one role: being a parent. Years later, he found himself in a conference room helping his team build an autonomous AI agent. Engineers debated prompts, tools, memory, reasoning loops, and workflows. Whiteboards were filled with architecture diagrams. Everyone was focused on the technology. Peter smiled. "This isn't very different from parenting," he said. The room went silent. He explained: 👉 "When children are young, you give direct instructions. That's like traditional software." "Do this." "Then do that." "Then do the next thing." Every step is predefined. 👉 "But as they grow older, you stop telling them every step." We keep trying to control every step." "Traditional software follows instructions." "Agents pursue goals." "And just like parenting, the ultimate success isn't when they obey every command." "It's when they make the right decision even when you're not there." Not teaching machines to follow instructions. But creating an environment where good decisions become possible.
