Excited to finally release our Strategy& and PwC Future of Food 2.0 report - have a squizz and tell me what you think! I'll be posting more about each area over the coming weeks - so follow along for more! We identified nine high-growth areas that will reach $3.1 trillion by 2035 – expanding at 7.7% annually compared to 2.1% for the broader food system. These aren't incremental opportunities; they represent fundamental shifts in how we grow, produce, and consume food. Three trends emerged as most important from our executive interviews: healthy eating, rapidly changing consumer expectations, and environmental change. What struck me was how these forces are creating unprecedented complexity for industry players. Consumers expect food that is healthy AND affordable AND convenient AND sustainable. We found opportunities across multiple areas: health and nutrition ($800B), innovation in food production through automation and alternative ingredients ($670B), and transformation in farming systems ($400B). But capturing this value requires companies to make deliberate choices about where to compete and build partnerships to access capabilities they cannot develop alone. The growth map is clear.
