🍅🥕From Father to Son~Pete’s Fruits and Vegetables: 50 Years of A Neighborhood Legacy For more than 50 years, Pete's Fruits & Vegetables has been a cornerstone of the neighborhood—a place where quality, familiarity, and personal connection still define the shopping experience. Owner Pete Moutzouris didn’t begin with a grand plan. “I had the opportunity—that’s why I opened it 50 years ago,” he says. But behind that simple statement is a remarkable journey. Pete came to the United States from southern Greece with little more than determination, working a series of jobs before eventually taking over a small neighborhood produce stand that would grow into Pete’s. From the start, the focus was clear: fresh, high-quality food sourced with care. Today, Pete continues to prioritize relationships with local suppliers whenever possible. That commitment reflects both his work ethic and upbringing in the Peloponnese region of Greece—specifically Kalamata—where fresh ingredients and simple, high-quality food are part of everyday life. But more than anything, Pete’s has always been about family. His son Ted grew up in the store, absorbing not just the day-to-day operations but the values behind them. “Like a Greek family—close together,” Pete says. Today, Ted works alongside him, continuing the tradition, while Pete’s other son, John, has carried on the family business as the owner of Spinelli’s Market for over 30 years. When asked what he’s most proud of, Pete keeps it simple: “The way it looks. Service, price, personality… nothing fancy.” That understated approach is exactly what gives the store its charm.
