"Food security is the real security." This powerful message from Principal Secretary Dr Kipronoh Ronoh Paul (Phd, MBA, Bsc Comp. Sci., MCSE,CCNA) during the opening of the 2nd KALRO NON-RUMINANT RESEARCH INSTITUTE Scientific Conference and Innovation Expo 2026 resonates deeply with our mission at Strathmore Agri-Food Innovation Centre (SAFIC). As climate change, resource constraints, and evolving market demands continue to challenge agricultural systems, the need for innovative, farmer-centered solutions has never been greater. The call for research that delivers tangible impact not just publications underscores the importance of translating knowledge into practical tools that farmers can use every day. At the KALRO Expo, SAFIC was proud to showcase how Artificial Intelligence and data-driven innovation can help transform agriculture through initiatives such as AgriIntel and AgriAtlas. ✅ AgriIntel empowers farmers with timely, localized, and actionable data and insights, helping them make informed decisions on production, pest and disease management, climate adaptation, and market opportunities. ✅ AgriAtlas leverages data and geospatial intelligence to provide deeper insights into agricultural ecosystems, supporting better planning, resource allocation, and evidence-based decision-making across the agrifood sector. During our side event, "AI in Agriculture: Opportunities, Implications and Risks," we shared findings from our study on Kenya's AI-enabled agricultural advisory ecosystem and explored how trusted agricultural content, localized AI models, and strategic partnerships can make digital advisory services more accessible and affordable for farmers. The future of agriculture will be shaped by collaboration, innovation, and the democratization of knowledge. By equipping farmers with the right information at the right time, we can build more resilient agrifood systems and strengthen food security across Kenya and Africa. We thank KALRO, our partners, speakers, panellists, and all participants for the engaging discussions and shared commitment to agricultural transformation. #Agriculture #FoodSecurity #AIforAgriculture #DigitalAgriculture #Innovation #ClimateSmartAgriculture #AgriTech #SAFIC #AgriIntel #AgriAtlas #KALROExpo2026 #AgrifoodSystems Simon Wagura Ndiritu, PhD Ann Waimiri Christine Riachi Goldin Ochieng Mujibi Denis Betselot Tsige Joseph Mwangi Julliet Hinga Strathmore University
